Individuals who experience homelessness are at a higher risk of becoming victims of violence.

According to homelesshub.ca, 59.6% of youth who are experiencing homelessness have been victimized by violence and assault. The younger the person, the higher the chance that they will experience violence. In fact, youth who are experiencing homelessness are six times more likely than housed populations to be assaulted. People can become homeless for a variety of reasons including mental illness, trans-generational poverty, domestic and family violence and a shortage of affordable housing. Everybody, especially youth, deserve a safe and warm place to live. What are some ways we can reduce homelessness and protect children and youth from violence?
